Safe Employment
The East Riding Safeguarding Children Board has responsibility for ensuring there are effective inter agency procedures in place for dealing with allegations against people who work with children and young people as well as for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of these.
An allegation will arise when a person who works with children and young people has:
- Behaved in a way that has harmed a child/ young person or may have harmed a child/ young person
- Possibly committed a criminal offence against or related to a child/young person
- Behaved towards a child/ren or young person in a way that indicates she/he is unsuitable to work with children and young people.
In connection with his/her employment or voluntary activityy or where:
- Concerns arise about the person''s behaviour with regard to his / her own children
- Concerns arise about the behaviour of a partner, family member or other household member.
There are a number of sources from which a complaint or an allegation might arise; a child or an adult, a parent, member of the public or disciplinary investigation. Also if an allegation relating to child is made about a person who undertakes paid or voluntary care of vulnerable adults, consideration should be given to altering those who manage them.
The Role of Local Authority Designation Officer (LADO)
The Local Authority Designation Officer (LADO) role is currently being undertaken by Tony Marsh (For Education and Schools Allegations) contact 01482 392139 and Ann Marie Born ( For Agencies and Organisations Allegations) contact 01482 396992.
Tony and Ann Marie will:
- Be involved in the management and oversight of individual cases
- Provide advice and guidance to employers and voluntary organisations
- Liaise with the Police and other organisations.
- monitor the progress of cases to ensure that they are dealt with as quickly as possible consistent with a thorough and fair process.
All employers should identify a Designated Senior Manager (DSM) to whom allegations or concerns should be reported. Further advice can be sought from:
